The Planning and Zoning Commission is an advisory group to the Soldotna City Council on issues and activities related to planning, land use regulation, and community development in general. The Commission also advises the Kenai Peninsula Borough Planning Commission on all platting matters within the city limits. Their duties include: preparing and updating a comprehensive plan for the city; reviewing land use permits such as conditional use, site plan, and variance applications; and making recommendations to the City Council on proposed amendments to the zoning map and land use code.
The body consists of seven commissioners who are appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the City Council, and serve staggered three-year terms.
The Planning and Zoning Commission meets the first and third Wednesday of every month, in the Council Chambers at City Hall. The public is welcome to attend any meeting of the Commission, and participate at opportunities for public comments on the agenda. Upcoming agendas are published in the Peninsula Clarion, on the notice board at the front entrance of City Hall, and on the City's web site (here).
To place an item on an upcoming agenda or get more information, please contact Stephanie Queen, City Planner at 262-9107.
